4 Simple Cheap Travel Ideas
Cheap travel does not have to mean that you should settle
for a second-class vacation or anything close. It simply means
that you should choose your travel and spending options
wisely.
Here are a few tips to help you make your next trip both
enjoyable and affordable. You can beat the costs without
compromising on the most important points to you.
1. Eat Like a Local: A mistake that most tourists make when
they travel to a different place is to try and maintain a
“class.” This is insane (in my opinion). This would include,
among others, eating at “tourists only” restaurants. The
natives are not stupid either, so you would probably be paying
at least twice or thrice for the same meal (that may even be of
lower quality sometimes) than you would have at a local
restaurant. Your best bet therefore, would be to eat cheap and
yummy at the local eateries. Or better still, try cooking some
local recipes yourself. :)
2. Free and Cheap Attractions: Every city has free, cheap
and “tourist standard” locations. The tourist councils and
companies would be promoting the “tourist” locations the most
because that is where most of their revenues come from.
However, you can also bypass the system and visit some free or
cheap (and probably less congested) attractions where you can
even be in a better and more intimate contact with the
locals.
3. Public Transportation: Another proven way of enjoying a
cheap travel is by using public transportation instead of using
a cabbie every time. Use the trains, subways, buses, ferries
and other forms of local transportation available. You would
benefit not just by saving your money for better things, but
also by gaining a firsthand knowledge and experience of the
cultures, customs and language of the local people. Now that is
something that the travel guide won’t get you. Just be sure
that you don’t take a lot of money with you and find out the
“never-go” zones of that place.
4. Be a Tough Negotiator: Most people just take what the
world gives to them and never complain. One of the best ways
you can have cheap travel is by also being a tough negotiator.
In most places around the world, you can bargain on hotel
prices, taxi fare, food, and everything else. Remember, the
natives want to make money off you too. They will never sell
you anything at a loss. But they also know that you probably
don’t know for how cheap you can get an item or a deal. Beat
that and ask for a better deal and price every time.
Cheap travel can be a reality for you if only you are open
to doing the little it takes by being just a little savvy. You
can be that by using the tips in this article and even some
more that are available on my site. ;)
