5 Wilderness Travel Survival Tips
While wilderness travel may not be for
everyone, there are a few tips that may make it easier for
those that are bent on undertaking one. This will help
you to survive the sometimes unfriendly jungles and wildlife
that you will be encountering. By the way, don't go there
thinking of chasing lions; might not be a good idea.
Outlined below are five tips that may help make your sojourn
into the unknown a little more bearable, safe and, of course,
enjoyable.
1. Learn Proper Navigation: There are
probably very few things that compare with getting lost in the
jungle and being unable to properly navigate your way through.
You should therefore, before embarking on your wilderness
travel, learn some basic navigational skills. You may want to
bring along a map, compass and even a GPS, if necessary. And
make sure they are in good working condition and you know how
to use them correctly.
2. Enough Water: While clean drinking
water may sometimes be readily available in the jungle,
depending on its location and season, it is still advisable to
take along enough water to last you through your planned period
of adventure. Also, make sure you know where, on the map, you
can have access to flowing water-rivers, streams, etc so that
you can take shower at least every once in a while. :
3. Don't Forget Food: Man does not
live by water alone, but by also food and snacks. As a result,
make sure that you have enough food to last you before setting
out. While it may be tempting to want to live on the "fruits of
the wild" and bush meat, it may not be so easy to get by at
times. So, make sure you have a backup (food) plan when
planning your wilderness travel.
4. Think Communication: Enjoying the
peace and solitude of the wild may be a very good idea,
however, carrying along some communication systems like phones,
may not be bad after all, too. Accidents do happen; you may
forget some things in the city or you may just want to get in
touch with your loved ones to share a moment; whatever the
case, make sure you are prepared beforehand.
5. Think Survival Tools: You have
probably seen in some movies where "cave men" start fires by
rubbing sticks. Think you can do that, too? Nevertheless, still
carry some matchboxes, lighters, torches, new sets of
batteries, solar-powered chargers and other such
equipments with you "just in case" your "primitiveness" does
not work as soon or as well as you want it to.
Wilderness travel has always been a fascination for many
adventurous people. And you should probably not be left out of
it, if it seems a good fit for you. Just be sure that you are
adequately prepared by following these and other tips, as
outlined in the resource website below.
